How game jams work
What is a game jam?
A game jam is a time-boxed event where developers build a playable game from scratch inside a fixed deadline — anywhere from a weekend to a few weeks — usually around a shared theme. On The Gaming Nest every jam runs through four phases: registration, development, submission, and rating.
How do jam rating periods work?
Once the submission deadline passes, the jam moves into its rating period: entries are scored against the jam's criteria by a jury, by the public, or by both, depending on the voting type the organizer chose. Results and the leaderboard are published when rating closes.
How do I run my first game jam?
Any account on the platform can propose a jam: pick a theme, set the registration, submission and voting dates, define the judging criteria and prizes, then submit it for review. Once approved it appears on this calendar.
