Lonesome Village is a gentle adventure starring a coyote, mixing puzzle-solving with life-sim activities and leaving combat out entirely. Players explore the town, work through its puzzles and gradually learn about its magical history while trying to rescue it from a malevolent force. It was developed and self-published by Ogre Pixel, a studio based in Mexico, and launched in 2022 for Windows, Mac and Linux.
Loren The Amazon Princess blends a visual novel with fantasy role-playing, pairing story-driven scenes with RPG systems. It was created by Winter Wolves, an independent studio in Italy, using the Ren'Py engine, and first released on April 30, 2012 before its Steam launch in 2014. An expansion, The Castle Of N'mar, came later in 2012, and a 2014 spin-off in the Tales of Aravorn line carried the subtitle Seasons of the Wolf.
Lost Ruins is a 2D side-scrolling action game from Altari Games in South Korea, released in 2021 and published by DANGEN Entertainment. It blends metroidvania-style exploration with survival elements. The player controls a young girl who wakes up with no memories in an unfamiliar land, then explores its dark, hostile spaces, fights grotesque monsters and takes on powerful bosses.
Love Esquire mixes a visual novel, a dating sim and RPG elements in a comedic fantasy tale. Instead of a hero, the player controls a humble squire with only a few months to win someone's heart before being sent off to war, which gives the romance a ticking clock. It was developed and published by Yangyang Mobile, a studio based in the Philippines, and released in October 2019 for Windows, macOS and Linux.
Lovely Planet 2: April Skies combines first-person shooting with platforming, following on from the original Lovely Planet from 2014. Levels mix gunplay with jumping as you move through stages. It was developed by Quicktequila, an indie developer from India, and published by tinyBuild, arriving on Windows, macOS and Linux in June 2019. Critics gave it mixed reviews, and it holds a Metacritic score of 69 on its store listing.
Luxuria Superbia is an abstract game in which players stroke and stimulate colourful, flower-like tunnels, using the controls as a metaphor for sexual arousal. Critics valued its unusual concept, design and touch input, while some felt the levels lacked variety or reasons to finish them. Made by Belgian studio Tale of Tales and released in 2013, it received the Independent Games Festival's Nuovo Award, was an IndieCade finalist, and has drawn academic attention.
Machineers is an episodic puzzle adventure from Lohika Games, a developer based in Denmark, in which players rebuild twelve whimsical machines from gears, belts, wires and other mechanical components. The player is Zola, a newly hired intern at Hayden's Repair Shop in Tivoli Town. Episode 1 first came out in October 2014 and Episode 2 followed in April 2015, and the first episode is available on Windows, Mac and Linux.
Merchant of the Skies is a simulation game that mixes the building-up of a tycoon title with the numbers of an economic sim. Its Steam tags also point to strategy and role-playing elements alongside the trading focus. It was created by Latvian developer Coldwild Games, which published it together with AbsoDev, and it came out in 2020. The available sources do not go further into its systems, but it sits firmly in the business management side of indie games.
In Milk Inside a Bag of Milk Inside a Bag of Milk, an unnamed woman heads to a nearby shop to buy a bag of milk while struggling with severe trauma, and the player acts as the voice inside her head, sharing her inner monologue. This psychological horror visual novel was made by Russian developer Nikita Kryukov using Ren'Py and released on Steam in August 2020, with a sequel following in 2021.
A direct sequel to its 2020 predecessor, Milk Outside a Bag of Milk Outside a Bag of Milk continues the story of the same unnamed heroine, exploring her unsettling dreams through themes of isolation, trauma and depression. This psychological horror visual novel was developed and published by Russian indie creator Nikita Kryukov using Ren'Py, and it arrived on Steam and itch.io in December 2021.

Mimpi Dreams is a 2015 sequel to Mimpi from Czech company Silicon Jelly, credited alongside Dreadlocks Mobile. Like its predecessor, it mixes puzzle adventure with platforming, asking players to handle both across its levels. It arrived on Steam in March 2016 for Windows, macOS and Linux, listed under the adventure genre, and continues the relaxed tone of the original.
Miniatures, a point-and-click adventure, was developed and self-published by Other Tales Interactive, a studio based in Denmark. It came out in 2024 on Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS and Nintendo Switch. As a point-and-click title, it is played by exploring scenes and interacting with them through the cursor, and its Steam listing places it in the adventure and casual categories for players looking for a relaxed pace.
MirrorMoon EP is a space exploration game with puzzle elements, built on Mirror Moon, a 2012 prototype that began life at a game jam. It takes inspiration from Noctis IV, another Italian indie title. Santa Ragione, a Milan studio in Italy, both developed and published it in 2013. By October 2013 it had sold 8,000 copies, and it holds a Metacritic score of 73.
Reverie Under the Moonlight is an independent Metroidvania in the Momodora series, a style built on exploring an interconnected map through action-adventure play. It is the fourth entry in the series, which started in 2010 with Momodora I. Developed by rdein under Bombservice in Brazil and made with GameMaker, it first came out on Windows in March 2016 with Playism as publisher.
Monster Prom is a dating sim in which players play a student at Spooky High, a school whose pupils are all monsters, with the goal of landing someone to take to prom. It was made by Beautiful Glitch, a Barcelona studio started by Julián Quijano, and launched on Windows, macOS and Linux in April 2018. A Second Term expansion followed in 2019, along with a string of sequels beginning with Monster Camp in 2020.
Monster Prom 2: Monster Camp is a visual novel in which players once again try to romance a cast of monsters, continuing the formula of the first Monster Prom. Steam categorises it as a simulation title. Beautiful Glitch, a studio from Spain, both developed and self-published it, releasing it in October 2020 for Windows, macOS and Linux as the second entry in its monster romance series.
Monster Sanctuary blends a side-scrolling metroidvania with monster collecting, letting you tame creatures and send them into turn-based battles. Exploration and team building feed into each other as you push through the world. It began as Denis Sinner's personal hobby project, grew through a Kickstarter that raised over five times its goal, and was released in 2020 by Moi Rai Games of Germany with Team17 publishing. It is built in Unity.
Moonlighter is an action role-playing game that folds roguelike structure and business simulation into one package, pairing combat with the running of a trade. It comes from Digital Sun, an independent studio in Spain, with 11 bit studios as its Steam publisher. The game launched in May 2018 on Windows, macOS, Linux and consoles, gained a Between Dimensions expansion in 2019, and was later followed by a sequel, Moonlighter 2: The Endless Vault.

Mosa Lina is a 2D physics puzzle platformer that bills itself as a hostile take on the immersive sim. Each puzzle is open-ended, and players must improvise using a random selection of special tools and items to find a way through. It was created by Stuffed Wombat from Austria with contributors Silkersoft, Lukke and Rollin'Barrel, launched on PC in 2023, and later came to macOS and Nintendo Switch.
Mother Russia Bleeds is a beat 'em up from Le Cartel Studio, an indie developer based in France, published by Devolver Digital. It belongs to the brawler tradition of fighting through enemies in close-quarters combat, and Steam lists it simply as action. The game launched worldwide on Windows, macOS and Linux in September 2016. A PlayStation 4 version followed that December and a Switch port arrived in 2018.
Mountain is an unusual simulation game in which you have very little control: your only real input comes at the start, when you are asked to draw some objects. Beyond that the experience is largely passive, and the game is meant to run in the background while you use other programs. It was created by David OReilly, from Ireland, with Double Fine Productions publishing, and released in 2014 for Windows, macOS, Linux and iOS.
Built for groups of players, Move or Die is a party platformer from Romanian indie studio Those Awesome Guys, with Xelu also credited on development. It was released for Windows in January 2016 and reached PlayStation 4 in 2019. The game runs on the LÖVE framework and holds a Metacritic score of 80, and Steam lists it as an indie action title.
Munin is a 2D puzzle platformer starring Munin, a messenger of Odin, as she travels through Yggdrasil to win back her lost powers. Its main trick is rotating chunks of the level, using physics and Norse runes to rearrange platforms and open a path forward. It was made by Gojira, an indie company from Portugal, and published by Daedalic Entertainment in June 2014 for Windows, Mac and Linux.
Near-Mage combines point-and-click adventure play with RPG elements. It comes from Romanian developer Stuck In Attic, which handled both development and publishing, and it was released for Windows, macOS and Linux in May 2025. On Steam it is filed under the adventure and indie categories, and it supports all three major desktop platforms from launch.
