Morocco has taken a new step toward strengthening its digital gaming industry after signing a memorandum of understanding between the Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication and Huawei Morocco during GITEX Africa 2026 in Marrakech. The agreement aims to accelerate the development of the country’s gaming ecosystem and digital creative industries.
Building a national gaming ecosystem
The agreement was signed by Minister Mohamed Mehdi Bensaid and Huawei Morocco CEO David Li. The partnership seeks to develop a competitive gaming ecosystem in Morocco and accelerate the sector’s growth ahead of the Morocco Gaming Expo 2026, scheduled to take place in Rabat.
Supporting Moroccan developers
A key element of the agreement is the training and mentorship of five Moroccan video game developers, who will receive technical guidance and support to help them reach international markets. Huawei will also contribute tools, workshops, and technical resources to support local game development initiatives.
Preparing Morocco Gaming Expo
The partnership will also help prepare infrastructure and workshops for Morocco Gaming Expo 2026, which will run from May 20 to May 24 in Rabat. The event is expected to bring together developers, startups, and international partners to support the growth of the gaming sector.
A growing gaming market
Morocco’s gaming market is expanding rapidly. According to industry estimates, the sector generated around $227 million in revenue in 2024 and could reach $297 million by 2027, highlighting its growing role in the country’s digital economy.
Industry observers believe that initiatives like this partnership could attract foreign investment, strengthen local studios, and position Morocco as an emerging hub for game development in the MENA and African regions.
