Major Overhaul of Player Models
Facepunch Studios has announced a comprehensive redesign of player models in Rust, marking the first major update in over a decade. The changes include improved mesh and material quality, a new rig system for realistic proportions, and expanded head and hair seed options.
Why Now?
Despite monthly updates, player models had remained unchanged for over a decade. 'The old model was holding us back from implementing future features,' said Facepunch. The overhaul aims to modernize visuals and enable more advanced character development.
What's Changing?
Only facial features will change, with body characteristics remaining random. The update includes enhanced head models, new hair shaders, and updated clothing to match the new rig. Eye lighting and facial details have also been refined.
What's Staying the Same?
Body features like size remain randomized. While a player customizer is in development, details are still being finalized. Players can expect to see their new faces in the upcoming update, though some may find the changes surprising.
