Developers of Dead by Daylight have revealed new ambitions to expand the franchise beyond its well‑known asymmetric multiplayer horror experience. After nearly a decade of success, the team is exploring ideas that could take the universe into entirely different game genres.
These insights were shared during a discussion featuring creative director Dave Richard and head of partnerships Mathieu Cote from Behaviour Interactive, where they talked about the long‑term future of the franchise and the possibility of creating new spin‑off projects within the same universe.
A Souls‑Style Game in the Dead by Daylight Universe
One of the most interesting ideas mentioned by the developers is the possibility of creating a Souls‑like action RPG inspired by games such as Elden Ring, but set within the dark horror world of Dead by Daylight.
Such a project would offer a completely different gameplay experience compared to the original multiplayer formula. Instead of asymmetric survival matches, players might explore dark environments, face powerful enemies, and experience challenging combat systems typical of Souls‑style games.
If this concept becomes reality, it could introduce a new type of horror‑driven RPG experience within the Dead by Daylight universe.
Expanding the Franchise
Over the years, Dead by Daylight has grown beyond a single game into a broader entertainment franchise. The universe already includes several related projects such as:
- Hooked on You: A Dead by Daylight Dating Sim
- comic book series
- a board game
- an upcoming film adaptation
The film is currently being developed in collaboration with horror production companies Blumhouse Productions and Atomic Monster.
Long‑Term Vision
According to the developers, the team has long‑term plans to continue expanding the Dead by Daylight universe for many years. This includes updates to the main game as well as new projects across different media.
