Hades is a roguelite action RPG in which Zagreus, son of the god of the dead, fights to break out of the Underworld with help from Olympian gifts. Every run offers randomised chambers and fast hack-and-slash fighting built on attacks, dashes and magic, while treasure earned between deaths unlocks lasting upgrades. Supergiant Games, an American studio, released it in 2020, and multiple award shows and publications gave it game of the year honours.
Hades II casts players as Melinoe, a princess of the Underworld and the sister of Zagreus, on a quest to bring down Chronos, the Titan of Time, with help from the Olympian gods. It blends a roguelike structure with action role-playing combat. Supergiant Games, based in the United States, developed and published this first sequel in its history, moving from early access in 2024 to a full launch in September 2025, and critics praised its gameplay, art, music and voice work.

Mewgenics combines cat breeding with tactical roguelike combat: players raise cats that take on character classes, then send them on adventures resolved through tactical battles on procedurally generated grids. The project began at Team Meat in 2012, stalled for years and was cancelled, then Edmund McMillen reacquired it and finished it with Tyler Glaiel. The American duo released it on Windows in February 2026, and it sold over a million copies in its first week.
Octogeddon is an action-strategy game with roguelike elements starring an octopus out for revenge on humanity. It battles with its tentacles, which can be upgraded between stages. Designer George Fan, previously behind Insaniquarium and Plants vs. Zombies, conceived it for a 2012 Ludum Dare contest and then co-founded All Yes Good in the United States to finish it, with a Windows release in February 2018. Critics liked its humorous art style and compared it to Plants vs. Zombies.

The Binding of Isaac is a roguelike action-adventure in which young Isaac escapes into a basement full of monsters after his mother hears a message from God demanding his life. Players guide him, or one of six unlockable characters, through procedurally generated rooms modelled on The Legend of Zelda, fighting in real time and collecting items and power-ups for boss battles. American developers Edmund McMillen and Florian Himsl made it in Adobe Flash after a week-long game jam, releasing it in 2011.
