Re-composing: Bloodborne
Ludwig, The Accursed
What if we were given the chance to recreate an iconic scene from gaming history?
This week, I decided to answer that question in my own way—by re-composing the battle music for Ludwig, The Accursed from Bloodborne.
For this experiment, I recorded gameplay without any music at all, then composed a new score from scratch using cello, chorus, bass drum, and strings.
My goal wasn't to replace the original music, but rather to understand the musical DNA of the work and discover the emotional path my own vision would take me within this dark world.
About the game and the boss:
Bloodborne (developed by FromSoftware in 2015) is a masterpiece that blends gothic horror with a grand orchestral soundtrack. Its music was composed by a group of renowned composers: Yuka Kitamura, Tsukasa Saito, Ryan Amon, Chris Velasco, Nobuyoshi Suzuki, and Michael Wandmacher. Recorded with a 65-piece orchestra and a 32-voice choir, the composition and recording process took approximately two and a half years.
The leader you chose, the Damned/Blessed Ludwig, is one of the most emotionally complex battles.
His music transforms from brutal chaos into a majestic, tragic melody.
Ludwig embodies the idea of falling from faith into madness, a central theme of Bloodborne.
He believed he was saving the world, but that very belief is what destroyed him.
Even after becoming a monster, he clung to his ideals… and that's what makes him more of a tragic figure than a terrifying enemy. The battle between Ludwig the man and Ludwig the beast symbolizes the eternal struggle between:
Faith and corruption
Order and chaos
Humanity and savagery
