A Hat in Time is a 2017 3D platformer from Danish studio Gears for Breakfast, built in Unreal Engine 3 and funded through Kickstarter. Players control Hat Kid, an alien girl gathering Time Pieces to get home, running, jumping and dodging obstacles through open environments. Inspired by Super Mario 64, Banjo-Kazooie and Psychonauts, it later gained DLC, online multiplayer and Steam Workshop mod support on PC.

Akane the Kunoichi is a platformer carrying action and casual tags on Steam. It was made by Haruneko, an independent studio in Italy, using Microsoft XNA. The game first appeared in 2011 on the Xbox Live Indie Games service for Xbox 360, and was later ported as a budget release to Windows, Windows Phone 7 and iOS, reaching Steam in May 2014.

Azure Striker Gunvolt is a side-scrolling 2D action platformer from Japanese studio Inti Creates, which also publishes it. Its combat echoes Mega Man Zero but adds a tagging system that lets Gunvolt mark foes and strike several at once. The story follows an Adept who quits his organization after a failed assassination and turns freelance to fight the Sumeragi Group. It debuted on the 3DS in 2014 and came to Windows in 2015, later spawning sequels and spin-offs.

BattleBlock Theater is a platform game from The Behemoth, the American studio behind Alien Hominid and Castle Crashers, making it the team's third release. It first came out on Xbox Live Arcade in April 2013 with Microsoft Studios as publisher, and reached Steam for Windows and Mac in 2014. Steam files it under action, adventure and casual play, and a quality-of-life update along with future console versions was announced in July 2024.

Bomb Rush Cyberfunk is an action platformer where a member of the Bomb Rush Crew skates, boards and bikes around the invented city of New Amsterdam. Its cel-shaded style and music openly echo Jet Set Radio, including tracks by composer Hideki Naganuma.

Its world draws on Spanish myths, wider European folklore and tales of chivalry, delivered through side-scrolling action. Console versions for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One arrived in 2016 under the new name Fenix Furia.

Play mixes side-on platforming with adventure-game exploration, presented in a hand-drawn anime look and backed by an orchestral score recorded by the Copenhagen Philharmonic Orchestra. A macOS version followed in June 2018 after the Windows release, and a follow-up game, Forgotlings, arrived in February 2026.

Katana Zero is a side-scrolling hack-and-slash platformer about Subject Zero, an amnesiac sword-wielding assassin who can slow time and foresee what comes next. Each level asks the player to clear every enemy without taking a hit, bending time, dodging and exploiting hazards, while dialogue-tree conversations between stages tell a neo-noir story. American studio Askiisoft built it in GameMaker, and Devolver Digital published it in 2019.

Oniken is a side-scrolling action platformer with a science fiction, post-apocalyptic setting. Independent Brazilian studio JoyMasher developed and published it using Clickteam tools, releasing it on Windows in June 2012 and on OS X and Linux in November 2012. The game passed Steam Greenlight in 2012, and a Nintendo Switch version titled Oniken: Unstoppable Edition arrived in 2019.

Chef Peppino Spaghetti climbs a tower to save his pizzeria, racing through 20 side-scrolling stages where collectibles and defeated enemies feed score combos. Each level ends with a timed escape back to the start, and there is no health or lives system. Its design takes cues from the Wario Land series.

Independent American studio Videocult, a two-person team, developed it, and it launched on Windows in March 2017 through Akupara Games.
