Toree 3D is a short 3D platformer that borrows its look and presentation from the early days of 3D platforming, with a few odd touches mixed in. It was made by Siactro, the working name of solo developer Marcus Horn from Germany, and first appeared on the Haunted PS1 Demo Disc compilation in 2021. Critics liked its visuals and sound while being split on the controls and brevity, and it was followed by Toree 2 later that year.
Townscaper is a city builder in which players assemble towns out of simple building pieces, shaping groups of structures with a minimalist interface. Its low-poly graphics and pared-back controls keep attention on construction rather than menus or management systems. Swedish developer Oskar Stålberg created it, and Raw Fury released it on Windows and Mac in August 2021, the month it left early access, with Switch, mobile and Xbox versions following later that year.
Tunche is a hand-drawn action game built around roguelike structure, set in the Amazon rainforest. Players pick from five distinct characters and fight to bring peace back to the jungle, either alone or cooperatively with friends. It was developed by LEAP Game Studios, based in Peru, and published by HypeTrain Digital, with a Windows release on Steam in November 2021.
In Unbound: Worlds Apart you guide Soli, a mage who can open portals into alternate realities, each with its own effect such as bending time, reversing gravity or transforming Soli himself. These portals drive the puzzle-platforming as you gather crystals that unlock gates to the dark world. Romanian studio Alien Pixel Studios developed and published it in 2021 after a Kickstarter campaign, and it received generally favorable reviews.
UnMetal is a stealth action-adventure that parodies Konami's Metal Gear series, starring Jesse Fox, a wrongly accused inmate trying to break out of a military prison while exposing a nuclear plot. Its play recalls the early Metal Gear games, updated with crafting, mostly non-lethal weapons and moments where narration and player choices shape events. It was made by Spanish developer Francisco Téllez de Meneses and released for PC and consoles in September 2021.
Unpacking is a relaxed puzzle game with simulation elements, built around a calm, casual pace rather than pressure or combat. It was developed by the independent Australian studio Witch Beam and released in 2021 across PC and consoles. The game was widely celebrated, winning two BAFTA Games Awards and Eurogamer's Game of the Year, plus a D.I.C.E. honour recognising outstanding achievement by an independent game.
Unsighted is a Metroidvania adventure where players control Alma, an amnesiac automaton in a world left by war between humans and robots. Everyone, including the player, has a draining time limit, and scarce meteor dust can extend it for Alma or for other characters before they turn unsighted. It was the 2021 debut of Studio Pixel Punk, formed in Brazil in 2017 by Fernanda Dias and Tiani Pixel, and critics praised its use of time, visuals and combat.
Weaving Tides is a puzzle adventure game with action elements, listed under action and adventure genres on Steam. It was developed and self-published by Follow the Feathers, an independent developer from Austria. The game launched on May 27, 2021 for Windows and macOS, and was also released on Nintendo Switch on the same day.
Webbed is a physics-driven puzzle platformer starring a peacock spider on a mission to rescue her boyfriend after a bowerbird snatches him away. Tail Trail is a free, story-driven point-and-click game about P.I. Trevor, who takes his first solo case to find a missing person on a mysterious island. The developer built it as a mix of a linear game and a short animated film, with heavy cutscenes, investigation of areas and light quick-time events. It is by Bold Statement Games, the developer of VolleySmash from Steam's Games Made in KSA bundle.
The Moroccan Castle is a first-person horror escape game set in a historic castle near Tetouan in northern Morocco. Trapped inside, the player has until 4:00 AM to solve puzzles, decode clues and unlock hidden doors before time runs out. Moroccan developer Ayman Jbari built it alone as the first game of the AJB Games Studio trilogy that ended with The Moroccan Castle 3, and it is a free download on itch.io.
The Trials 1 is a puzzle exploration game set on an island divided into seven main areas. Players use three abilities: recording a box's movement and playing it back, switching between two parallel worlds, and dropping a teleport station to return to. More than 30 side puzzles award gemstones that unlock new areas. It was the first game from Blue Life, a studio identified as Syrian, which followed it with The Trials 2.
Black Book is a dark adventure RPG steeped in Slavic mythology from Morteshka, the Russian studio behind The Mooseman. Dyson Sphere Program is a factory-building simulation from the Chinese studio Youthcat Studio, in which you grow a small workshop into an industrial network spanning a whole galaxy. You gather resources, design production lines and eventually harness the power of entire stars. It launched in early access in 2021 and quickly became a standout in the automation genre.
Eastward is an action-adventure RPG from the Chinese studio Pixpil, set in a society slowly falling apart.
