60 Seconds! opens with a nuclear bomb about to strike a suburban town and gives a family of four one frantic minute to grab whatever supplies they can. The rest of the game is about surviving on that haul and, eventually, escaping to somewhere safer. Polish studio Robot Gentleman developed and self-published it in May 2015; the project began as an experiment to test whether Unity suited the team, and a remastered edition arrived in 2019.
ARIDA: Backland's Awakening is an adventure with survival mechanics, originally known as Projeto Sertao during development. Players follow Cicera, a young woman from the countryside who must endure hunger and drought in the backlands of Brazil during the 19th century. It was developed by Brazilian studio Aoca Game Lab and released on Steam for Windows in August 2019.
CryoFall is a multiplayer science-fiction survival game from AtomicTorch Studio, a Singapore-based developer, with its full Steam release arriving in April 2021 through publisher Daedalic Entertainment. Players establish a colony on an abandoned planet far in the future, staying alive while working through technology, farming, trade, industry and cybernetics. Its Steam tags span RPG, simulation and strategy alongside massively multiplayer play.
Dawn of Man is a survival city-builder from Madruga Works, a UK developer, released in March 2019 after a closed beta that began in October 2018. It blends settlement building with survival play, and its genre listings also point to business simulation and a historical setting. On Steam it is available for Windows and macOS under the simulation and strategy categories.
Don't Starve is a survival game from Canadian studio Klei Entertainment, first released on PC in 2013. The player must keep the scientist Wilson alive, fed and sane in a gloomy parallel world called the Constant while fending off strange and supernatural creatures. An Adventure mode pits him against Maxwell, and the game is known for its distinctive art style as well as its difficulty and permanent death.
Dream Engines: Nomad Cities is a survival city-builder in which your city flies, travelling between procedurally generated maps. Players build and automate production and defend the settlement across a quirky post-apocalyptic world filled with nightmares, odd science, and dreams. It comes from Suncrash, an Israeli studio, was co-published with Gamirror Games, and was released on Windows in May 2024, with Steam also tagging it as an RPG.
Empyrion - Galactic Survival is an open-world space sandbox from Eleon Game Studios, a developer based in Switzerland. It first appeared in early access in 2015 before its full Steam release in 2020. Players build and explore across space and planets, constructing large capital ships, planetary settlements and space stations while surviving and uncovering the mysteries of the Empyrion galaxy.
Endling: Extinction is Forever is a survival adventure about a mother fox, the last of her kind, trying to keep her cubs alive in a world after the apocalypse. It sits between action-adventure and simulation according to its listed genres. Barcelona studio Herobeat Studios developed it, and it launched in July 2022 on Windows and consoles, later reaching Android and iOS and being offered free to PlayStation Plus subscribers in July 2023.
Flotsam blends survival with city-building, asking players to grow and sustain a settlement in a post-apocalyptic setting. It sits at the meeting point of simulation and strategy, with the focus on planning and keeping a community alive. The game comes from Pajama Llama Games in Belgium, entered early access in September 2019, and reached its full release in December 2025, now under Stray Fawn Publishing after an earlier stint with Kongregate.
Green Hell drops the player into the Amazon rainforest with little more than their wits. Staying alive means crafting tools, hunting, gathering resources and building anything from a crude shelter to a fortified base, and the jungle can be tackled alone or in co-op with friends. It was developed by Creepy Jar of Poland, released on Windows in 2019, and later reached several console generations before development wrapped up in 2024.
In Infection Free Zone, a viral outbreak has turned most of humanity into aggressive infected, and you must keep a community of survivors alive. By day you direct groups as they scavenge for supplies and fortify their settlement; after dark, those defences are tested by waves of attackers. Polish studio Jutsu Games developed it, Games Operators handles publishing, and it entered Steam early access in April 2024 for Windows.
Interdimensional Vending Machine is a surreal survival game drawing on the SCP-261 concept. The player controls a homeless girl in a warped city who relies on an impossible vending machine, where each coin buys strange food and every meal alters her path. It was developed by Neuroticfly Games, a studio based in the Philippines, published with HoruBrain, and released for Windows in June 2026.
Judgment: Apocalypse Survival Simulation is a colony management game where a small band of survivors sets up a base in a remote valley while demons overrun the world. Players scavenge, craft, and construct, perform occult rituals, and fight in tactical combat to keep the colony alive. Israeli indie company Suncrash developed and published it, first in Early Access in 2016 and fully in 2018, with a Metacritic score of 72.
Niche is a simulation game about genetics in which players breed a pack of canine or feline creatures, steering which traits and genes pass to the next generation so the group becomes ideally suited to its environment. Steam lists it under both simulation and strategy. Swiss independent studio Stray Fawn Studio funded it through Kickstarter, ran an early access period from 2016 and released the full game in September 2017.
Out of Space is a cooperative multiplayer game that combines survival with strategy, and it is also classed as a party game with real-time strategy elements. It comes from Brazilian team Behold Studios, the developers behind Chroma Squad. The game launched on Steam for Windows, macOS and Linux in February 2020, and a Couch Edition later came to Switch, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in November 2020.
Oxygen Not Included is a survival simulation game developed and self-published by Canadian studio Klei Entertainment. It blends the survival and simulation genres, and Steam files it as an indie simulation title. The game spent a long stretch in Steam early access starting in February 2017 before reaching its full launch in July 2019, and it holds a Metacritic score of 85 on the platforms it covers.
Palworld is a monster-taming survival game set in an open world full of creatures called Pals, which players fight and capture, then put to work in combat, traversal and base building. Pals can staff player bases and handle jobs automatically, and up to 32 people can share one server. Japanese developer Pocketpair created and self-published it, launching in early access in January 2024 before reaching full release in 2026.
Raft is a survival sandbox game that starts players on a tiny floating platform in an endless ocean, surrounded by sharks. Using a hook to pull in drifting debris, they expand the raft into a base, craft tools and keep hunger and thirst in check, alone or with friends. A radio receiver leads to story islands with a narrative about rescuing prisoners. Swedish studio Redbeet Interactive began it as a university student project and released the full version in 2022.
Rust is a multiplayer survival game from UK studio Facepunch Studios, fully released in February 2018 after an early access run that started in 2013. Players scavenge or steal materials, manage hunger, thirst and health, craft gear and fortify bases, while the biggest danger comes from other players rather than wildlife. Clans, raiding and firearms drive much of the conflict, and scheduled server wipes regularly reset progress so each cycle starts fresh.
SCUM is an open-world survival game pitched as a prison riot scenario, where convicts are dropped onto a hostile island. Staying alive means looting, crafting, hunting, building and fighting, and detailed character customization shapes the prisoner you play. Croatian studio Gamepires made it in Unreal Engine 4. It entered Steam early access in 2018 and reached its full release in June 2025.

Subnautica is a survival adventure set on an ocean world, where the player, Ryley Robinson, is stranded after a spaceship crash. Exploring beneath the waves, you collect resources, cope with the local wildlife and work toward a way off the planet. Unknown Worlds Entertainment, an American studio, developed and published it, leaving early access in January 2018; it sold more than 5 million copies by January 2020.
The Bonfire 2: Uncharted Shores is a city-building strategy game with survival elements. Players design a settlement, organise workers and resource chains, dispatch ships on expeditions, trade with other cities, and explore mysterious dungeons that hide secrets left by the ancients. It was developed and published by Xigma Games, a studio from India, and released for Windows and Mac in August 2020.
The Bonfire: Forsaken Lands is a settlement-building survival strategy game set in a snowy encampment. Players gather and manage resources, craft, and expand their camp while fending off monster attacks and working to uncover secrets of an ancient past. It was created and self-published by Indian studio Xigma Games and released for Windows and Mac in March 2018, with Steam also tagging it as an RPG and simulation.
The Last Caretaker is a survival crafting game played in first person, from Channel37, a studio in Finland, which entered early access on Windows in November 2025. Players control the final active Caretaker, a self-governing robot that wakes up on a flooded Earth after the apocalypse. Its mission is to recover human seeds, bring the Lazarus Complex back online, grow new humans and send them into orbit so that humanity can endure.
