Depth is an asymmetrical multiplayer shooter played from a first-person view beneath the waves. One side controls divers searching for treasure, while the other side plays as sharks hunting them down. It comes from New Zealand, was built with Unreal Engine 3 and launched on Windows in 2014. The contrast between treasure-seeking humans and predators of the deep gives each match two very different ways to play.
868-HACK is a compact roguelike in which you play a hacking program inside a computer network, grabbing as much data as you can before defence programs wipe you out. It began in the Seven-Day Roguelike challenge in 2013 and was made and published by Michael Brough of New Zealand. After iOS it reached Windows and Mac in 2015. At the Independent Games Festival it received a design nomination plus a Seumas McNally Grand Prize honorable mention.
AMID EVIL is a retro-style first-person shooter with a dark fantasy setting and fast, action-heavy combat. Its look and feel have led many to call it a spiritual successor to the 1990s classics Heretic and Hexen. It was developed by New Zealand studio Indefatigable, published by New Blood Interactive, and released in 2019. The game uses Unreal Engine 4, pairing modern technology with deliberately old-school visuals and weapons.
Automation lets players found their own virtual car manufacturer and engineer the vehicles it sells. Detailed design tools cover both car bodies and engines, while business choices determine whether the company grows into a leading automaker or fades out. It is developed and published by Camshaft Software, based in New Zealand, and entered Steam in 2015 as a Windows title in Early Access.
Before We Leave is a city-building game in which players lay out and grow settlements, a genre focused on planning, resources and expansion. Steam classifies it as a casual simulation and strategy title. It was made by New Zealand developer Balancing Monkey Games and released by Team17 in May 2021. The available sources do not describe its setting or systems in more detail than that, so it is best approached as a straightforward builder.
Labyrinth of the Demon King is a survival horror game whose look deliberately recalls horror titles from the original PlayStation era. Critics highlighted its dense, eerie atmosphere, though some pointed to limits in its design. It was created by J. R. Hudepohl in New Zealand and published by Top Hat Studios in 2025. Steam lists action, adventure and role-playing elements, but its specific systems are not described in the available sources.
Poly Bridge tasks players with designing bridges sturdy enough for vehicles to drive across. Structures are assembled from steel, wood, rope and cable, hydraulic parts can make sections move, and each material has its own cost, which turns every level into a budget puzzle. It was made by Dry Cactus, an indie studio from New Zealand, with a score by composer Adrian Talens, and came out on Windows in 2016, later reaching iOS.
Poly Bridge 2 is the follow-up to Poly Bridge and keeps its focus on engineering bridges that must hold up under physics-driven traffic. Players plan structures across a new run of levels, balancing materials and design choices so vehicles reach the other side. New Zealand studio Dry Cactus developed and published it, with Adrian Talens again writing the music, and it launched in 2020 on Windows, Mac and Linux as well as mobile.
Rolling Line recreates the hobby of model railways as a sandbox with a low-poly visual style. Players lay out track and scenery, explore existing layouts and share their creations online, playing solo or with others on a flat screen or in virtual reality with support for a wide range of headsets. It was developed and self-published by Gaugepunk Games from New Zealand and launched on Windows in April 2018.
Mini Metro is a puzzle strategy game from the New Zealand indie team Dinosaur Polo Club about designing a subway map for a growing city. You draw lines between stations and keep adjusting them as new stops appear and passengers pile up. Its clean look borrows from real transit maps, and its sound is generated by your network.
