140 is a minimalist platformer from Carlsen Games, a developer based in Denmark, released for Windows, Mac and Linux in 2013. Players travel through four levels, each paired with its own electronic soundtrack, as music and visuals combine into a synesthetic experience layered over tough platforming. Critics compared its music-synced play to the Bit.Trip series and Sound Shapes. Its director, Jeppe Carlsen, had earlier worked on Playdead's Limbo.
A Hat in Time is a 2017 3D platformer from Danish studio Gears for Breakfast, built in Unreal Engine 3 and funded through Kickstarter. Players control Hat Kid, an alien girl gathering Time Pieces to get home, running, jumping and dodging obstacles through open environments. Inspired by Super Mario 64, Banjo-Kazooie and Psychonauts, it later gained DLC, online multiplayer and Steam Workshop mod support on PC.
Cocoon is a 2023 puzzle adventure from Danish studio Geometric Interactive, published by Annapurna Interactive. Players control a beetle able to hop between worlds, solving puzzles as they uncover the mysteries of its universe. It launched in September 2023 on Windows as well as Nintendo Switch, PlayStation and Xbox consoles, and critics received it generally positively, with a Metacritic score of 88.
ECHO is a 2017 stealth game from Ultra Ultra, an independent studio in Denmark, built in Unreal Engine 4 and released for Windows that September. Drawing on stealth, action-adventure and science fiction genres, it centres on careful, sneaking play rather than open confrontation. The game was received positively by critics, but it did not succeed commercially, and it ended up being the only title Ultra Ultra shipped before the studio closed its doors.
Released in 2013, Expeditions: Conquistador is a tactical role-playing game about squad combat in which players take charge of a Spanish expedition to Hispaniola and Mexico, set between 1518 and 1520. Alongside its tactical combat, it features resource management, a branching story and interactive fiction segments. It was made by Logic Artists in Denmark, partly funded through Kickstarter, and first released for Windows, Linux and Mac by BitComposer before THQ Nordic acquired the series in 2018.
Expeditions: Viking, from Logic Artists, is a tactical role-playing game built around squad combat, made, a studio based in Denmark and released on Windows in 2017 and published by THQ Nordic. Players take on the role of a Danish viking heading a voyage to Great Britain around the year 790 AD, directing a band of warriors through tactical encounters. It is the second entry in the Expeditions series after Expeditions: Conquistador, and the series later continued with Expeditions: Rome in 2022.
Released in 2019, Felix the Reaper is a puzzle game by Kong Orange, a studio from Denmark, published by Daedalic Entertainment. Each level asks players to guide Felix through spatial puzzles while keeping him out of the sunlight, reshaping the environment to open safe routes. His job in every scenario is to set up fatal, often contrived accidents that claim a chosen character's life. The Danse Macabre tradition inspired the concept, and development spanned eight years.
Forced: Showdown is a bullet-hell brawler for one player, viewed from above and made by BetaDwarf, an independent developer from Denmark, and launched on Windows, OS X and Linux in March 2016. Framed as an ever-shifting galactic game show, it has players pick a champion, upgrade their abilities and fight through waves of minions while dodging incoming attacks. Forgotton Anne, from Danish studio ThroughLine Games, is a cinematic blend of adventure and platforming that first launched in May 2018. Play mixes side-on platforming with adventure-game exploration, presented in a hand-drawn anime look and backed by an orchestral score recorded by the Copenhagen Philharmonic Orchestra. A macOS version followed in June 2018 after the Windows release, and a follow-up game, Forgotlings, arrived in February 2026.
Released in 2016, Inside is a puzzle-platform horror game from Playdead, the Danish studio behind Limbo. Players guide a boy through a dystopian world in 2.5D, solving environmental puzzles while trying to avoid death. Episode 1 first came out in October 2014 and Episode 2 followed in April 2015, and the first episode is available on Windows, Mac and Linux.
Miniatures, a point-and-click adventure, was developed and self-published by Other Tales Interactive, a studio based in Denmark. It came out in 2024 on Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS and Nintendo Switch. As a point-and-click title, it is played by exploring scenes and interacting with them through the cursor, and its Steam listing places it in the adventure and casual categories for players looking for a relaxed pace.
Sportsfriends is a party game compilation from Die Gute Fabrik, an independent developer collective in Denmark, bundling four titles: Hokra, BaraBariBall, Super Pole Riders and Johann Sebastian Joust. That last one needs no screen at all, as players try to keep their PlayStation Move controller steady while jostling rivals' controllers. Super Pole Riders is a pole-vaulting game by Bennett Foddy, and the project raised more than US$150,000 on Kickstarter.
The Forest Quartet is a 2022 puzzle adventure by Mads Vadsholt, an independent Danish developer working as Mads and Friends, published by Bedtime Digital Games. Players control a spirit trying to bring her old band back together, drifting through three stages and interacting with objects to solve puzzles that light up the dark forest and extinguish fires. Its sound work earned the Excellence in Audio prize at the Independent Games Festival in 2023.
The Silent Age is a point-and-click adventure from Danish indie studio House on Fire. It follows a janitor pulled into a mission to save humanity from an apocalyptic event, using time travel and glimpsing the future that awaits if he fails. Originally released as two episodes and later sold together, it reached Windows and Mac on Steam in 2015 and was positively reviewed by critics.
THOTH, an abstract shoot 'em up, comes from Carlsen Games in Denmark, released for Windows and Mac in 2016 under the Double Fine Presents label. It was created by Jeppe Carlsen, who had served as lead gameplay designer on Playdead's Limbo and Inside. In keeping with its genre, play revolves around shooting and evading enemies, all presented in a stripped-back, abstract visual style that suits its minimal approach.
Trailmakers is a sandbox game from Danish independent developer Flashbulb Games, built around physics-based vehicle construction. Players assemble machines in 3D and take them out into open-world environments to explore what they can do. It launched in Steam early access in January 2018 and reached full release on PC and Xbox One in September 2019, with a PlayStation 4 version following in 2020.
What the Car? is a comedy racing game from Triband, a studio based in Denmark, first released on Apple Arcade in 2023 and on Windows in September 2024.
